Eagle Scout Project

Dear Parents/Guardians of HOPs athletes:

Let me start by introducing myself. My name is Greg Bristol, and I am a life scout (one rank below Eagle Scout) in Flemington, NJ Boy Scout Troop 62. I am currently working towards the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank possible in scouting. One of the requirements for this rank is to run a service project for an organization of choice. I have chosen HOPs as the organization I would like to benefit for my project. The reason for this is because I have been volunteering with HOPs for 5 years now and I love everything that the organization does and works to achieve. Additionally, I have a disability myself, Tourette Syndrome, which brings HOPs and the athletes who participate in it even closer to my heart.

My eagle scout project is going to be a fundraiser for HOPs which will be run by the athletes with guidance from Boy Scouts, HOPs volunteers, and other volunteers. The fundraiser will consist of a car wash, craft sale, and food sale all on the same day in September. The athletes will assist the volunteers in washing the cars, selling crafts & food, collecting money, and more. Please note that the crafts (which will be a small sports themed ornament/medal made out of the plastic top to a tennis ball can) will be made prior to the day of the event during two separate craft days planned this summer. All of the food that is going to be sold will be pre-packaged things like chips, gatorade, water, etc. The goal of this whole process is to guide the HOPs athletes to develop life skills including real world work experience, team and project management, money management and handling skills, as well as creating and selling a product worth value to others. All of the money earned by my Eagle Scout Project will be donated back to HOPs to use as they wish.

Right now, I am just trying to get an idea of how many athletes would like to help us build crafts to be sold at the fundraiser. The days for building crafts will take place August 18th and 24th shortly before the fundraiser. To help me out, please go to the registration page by clicking here and fill out the form if you are interested in your athlete helping to build crafts. If you are not interested, please do not fill out the form. This is by no means a binding agreement that you will attend, just a rough estimate how many people/who may attend. I would also like to inform you that this event will be of no cost to you. It is completely free like all other HOPs events for athletes to participate in. Additionally, this event is 100% insured by the Boy Scouts of America. If you have any questions at all please do not hesitate to contact me via email (gregory.d.bristol@gmail.com). I will respond to you as quick as possible with an answer. Thank you very much.
